Talking About The Weather

After exchanging greetings we often talk a little about the weather. And because there are 4 distinct seasons in Japan the weather is often a subject that is talked about.

いいお天気で すね。　－　いいおてんきですね。　－　Ii otenki desu ne.
Nice day, isn't it?

暑いです ね。　－　あついですね。　－　Atsui desu ne.
Hot today, isn't it?

寒いですね。　－　さむ いですね。　－　Samui desu ne.
Cold, isn't it?

いやなお天気ですね。　－　いやなおてんきです ね。　－　Iyana otenki desu ne.
Bad weather, isn't it?

むし暑いですね。　－　む しあついですね。　－　Mushiatsui desu ne.
Muggy, isn't it?

よく降りますね。　－　よくふ りますね。　－　Yoku furimasu ne.
It's been raining a lot, hasn't it?

When the seasons are changing, you will ofetn hear:

すずしくなりましたね。　－　 Suzushiku narimashita ne.　
It's gotten cool, hasn't it?

あたたかくな りましたね。　－　Atatakaku narimashita ne.
It's gotten warm, hasn't it?

Again the 'o' at the beginning of 'tenki' is honorific and can be dropped in less formal situations.
So what is with all the sentences ending with 'ne'？　'Ne' (ね) is a way of saying 'isn't it / hasn't it, for example you and a friend are eating the same meal and your friend says to you:
お いしいですね。　－　Oishii desu ne.　ー　Tasty, isn't it?
