ひらがなの授業第一 (Hiragana Lesson #1)

Like English Japanese has 5 vowels. They are also phonetically similar to the English vowels.

あ = a Sounds like the 'a' in Father.

い = i Sounds like the 'i' in Machine.

う = u Sounds like the 'u' in Flu.

え = e Sounds like the 'e' in Get or Let.

お = 0 Sounds like the 'o' on Open or Hope.
