At The Restaurant. Pt1

Today we will learn some restaurant basics.


ウェイトレス: いらっしゃいませ。何名さまですか。
山田さん: 二人です。
ウェイトレス: どうぞこちらへ。

Ueitoresu: Irasshaimase. Nanmei sama desu ka.
Yamada-san: Futari desu.
Ueitoresu: Douzo kochira e.

Waitress: Welcome! How many people?
Yamada: Two people.
Waitress: This way, please.

山田さん: メニューお願いします。
ウェイトレス: はい、少々お待ちください。

Yamada-san: Menyuu onegaishimasu.
Ueitoresu: Hai, shou shou omachi kudasai.

Yamada: Can I have a menu, please?
Waitress: Yes, please wait a moment.

Ueitoresu - ウェイトレス - waitress

Irasshaimase. - いらっしゃいませ。- Welcome (to our shop) (Used as a greeting to welcome customers.)

nanmei sama - 何名さま - how many people (It is very polite way of saying "how many people". "Nannin" is less formal.)

futari - 二人 - two people

kochira - こちら - this way

Menyuu - メニュー - menu

Onegaishimasu. - お願いします。 - Please do me a favour. (Convenient phrase used when making a request.)

Shou shou omachi kudasai. - 少々お待ちください。 - Please wait a moment. (formal expression)

山田さん: 僕はすしの盛り合わせ。
弘子さん: 私はてんぷらにします。
ウェイトレス: すしの盛り合わせがひとつ、てんぷらがひとつですね。お飲み物はいかがですか。
山田さん: ビールを一本ください。
弘子さん: 私もビールをもらいます。
ウェイトレス: かしこまりました。他に何か。
山田さん: いいえ、結構です。

Ueitoresu: Go-chuumon wa okimari desu ka.
Yamada-san: Boku wa sushi no moriawase.
Hiroko-san: Watashi wa tempura ni shimasu.
Ueitoresu: Sushi no moriawase ga hitotsu, tempura ga hitotsu desu ne. O-nomimono wa ikaga desu ka.
Yamada-san: Biiru o ippon kudasai.
Hiroko-san: Watashi mo biiru o moraimasu.
Ueitoresu: Kashikomarimashita. Hoka ni nani ka.
Yamada-san: Iie, kekkou desu.

Waitress: Would you like to order?
Yamada: I will have assorted sushi.
Hiroko: I will have a tempura.
Waitress: One assorted sushi and one tempura, isn't it? Would you like anything to drink?
Yamada: A bottle of beer, please.
Hiroko: I will have beer, too.
Waitress: Certainly. Anything else?
Yamada: No thanks.

go-chuumon - ご注文 - order

boku - - I (informal, it is used by men only)

sushi no moriawase - すしの盛り合わせ - assorted sushi

hitotsu - ひとつ - one (Native Japanese number)

o-nomimono - お飲み物 - beverage

Ikaga desu ka. - いかがですか。 - Would you like ~?

Biiru - ビール - beer

Morau - もらう - to receive

Kashikomarimashita. - かしこまりました。 - Certainly. (Literally means, "I understand.")

Nanika - 何か - anything

Iie, kekkou desu. - いいえ、結構です。 - No, thank you.

Hajimeni, Kami, Ten, Chi and Sareta.



This is a follow up of my previous video 初めに神は天と地を創造された。:
I thought it would be a nice idea to look more closely at some of the words mentioned in that one simple sentence, or rather verse.
The words are:
初めに Hajimeni - To begin, to start or to originate.
初めまして Hajimemashite - Pleased to meet you (This is the first time.)
神 Kami - God, deity, divinity, spirit.
太陽の神 Taiyou no kami - Sun god. 
天 Ten - Sky, Heaven.
天気 Tenki - Weather.
地 Chi - Earth, Ground, Soil, Land.
地下鉄 Chikatetsu - Underground / Subway
された Sareta - A past action, caused to be, performed.
It is always best to learn Japanese from a native speaker. My pronounciation is far from perfect.

初めに神は天と地を創造された。



はじめにかみはてんとちをそうぞうされた。
初めに神は天と地を創造された。
Hajime ni kami wa ten to chi o souzou sareta.
In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.

初め はじめ Hajime = Beginning, Start, Origin.
神 かみ Kami = God
天 てん Ten = Heavens
地 ち Chi = Earth
創造 そうぞう Souzou = Creation
された  Sareta = implies that God 'created' Or he carried out, performed, etc
に Ni = is the particle which indicates location of a person or thing or the location of a short term action, etc.
は Wa = is the topic marker particle
と To = means 'and'
を Wo / O = is a particle which in this case indicates a direct object of action

Hiragana Lesson #3 (ひらがなの授業第三)

Today's Hiragana lesson is presented by my beautiful daughter, Sakura.

Hiragana Lesson #3 is Sa, Shi, Su, Se, So (さ, し, す, せ, そ)

さしみ = Sashimi = Thinly cut slices of raw fish.
すし = Sushi = Vinegared rice
せき = Seki = Chair / Seat
そこ = Soko = There
おいしい = Oishii = Tasty
あさ = Asa = Morning
